In my short time of being a married man, I have found the refrigerator to be a place of comfort and laughter.
The refrigerator is comforting because thats where the food is! It is also a place of laughter because the position of it in my house really bottlenecks the entry to the living room. I remember a time recently that I was looking for something in the refrigerator, but could not find it. I asked Kelley, “Where is it, again?” She said, “In the door!” I couldn’t find it…until she walked over. After I moved out of the way for her to enter the kitchen, and she handed the ketchup to me. If you noticed that I carry a bottle of ketchup in my backpack, you now know part of the reason why!
That bottle was right in front of my face though, and I could not see it. Had that ketchup bottle been a snake, I would have been in trouble! Seems like that may be something we all struggle with or have struggled with at some point in our lives. We search and search for the one thing we desire the most, when in reality, it is right in front of us all along! The Good News of Jesus is right in front of us. We see it in everything around us. We can see it in His creation, His people, and His will for us.
Solomon had literally everything we could think of. He had wisdom, he had wealth, he has a King, and he was the longest living man on the Earth. He was very blessed by the Lord in his time on Earth, but the lesson, I believe, Solomon would want us to learn in this life can be taken from Ecclesiastes 12:11-14. “Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man.” I encourage you to stop looking for earthly treasures and pursue the Lord. Like me looking for the ketchup bottle, you may need to ask for help. The people around you are the best ones to ask. They love you and care about you!
