“What are you talking about?” is a commonly used phrase for people across all generations. It may be a parent trying to decipher what their baby is babbling about, an older person trying to comprehend what a younger person is saying to them in their normal jargon, or we are listening to someone our own age talks about something about which we know nothing. What are some things that are frequently talked about you may ask? I like talking about different sports and the players on the different teams, and you may as well. According to Randy Travis, old men like to talk about the weather, and old women talk about old men; regarding both of which, I would ask, “What are you talking about?!”
What do you talk about on a daily basis? I am sure that the COVID pandemic is one of those topics frequently talked about. It seems that the entire world is consumed with talking about it and staying up to date on the latest news about COVID. Ask yourself this question, when was the last time you talked about Jesus? It is easy to say that you contributed to your Bible class, but have you recently talked about Jesus when you were not surrounded by your brothers and sisters? Imagine if we talked about Jesus, did as much investigation about Jesus, and shared Jesus as much as we talked about COVID, investigated COVID, and shared our opinions about COVID. We see just how at peace souls are when they set their minds on spiritual things, especially Jesus (Romans 8:5-7).
I challenge you this week to start making Jesus a talking point in your daily routine. Start with people with whom you are comfortable, like family. You can then branch out to others you see at work, maybe the cashier at the grocery store, or maybe the people you meet in the elevator for just a couple seconds. Can you imagine the spiritual journey someone could begin if they asked you, “What are you talking about”?
