My grandfather has a 1957 Chevrolet pickup, and the brakes are something to marvel at..to say the least. In order to stop, you have to pump the brakes to get adequate pressure to said brakes…sometimes. Sometimes life can be easy going and be as if you don’t have a care in the world, like riding in that truck with the windows down. Other times, it is the exact opposite (like having to pump the brakes). You may have everyone looking to you for everything and you are behind on all those deadlines. Days like that always make me stressed and make me want to recluse from people once all the work is done. The worst part, in my opinion, is that an easy going day can turn into a hectic and stressful day at a moment’s notice. Though those days are, in my opinion, the worst, I still enjoy them because I can try to be useful in some way and help others.
Psalm 42:10 gives the cure to not being so stressed on those hectic, “Murphy’s Law” kind of days. The verse reads, “Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” I want to focus specifically on the first phrase; “Be still, and know that I am God.” We know what its like to sit still, understand different things, and we’ve all heard the phrase “I am God” countless times before. But, what does it actually mean?
To me, it means this: “Be still.” That means, turn off your phones, and forget about the outside world. Stop talking, and LISTEN to what God says. “and know” That means stop doubting in the things you know to be true. Be sure of it, and have faith in it! There is no need in a second opinion about what you put your faith in. Finally, “that I am God.” That means, God is almighty. God is in control. God is loving. God is my hope. God is my strength. God is a sheltering place. God is my shepherd. God is my Heavenly Father! So, when life is stressful, press on God. He will slow your stresses until they stop.
