“Patience, Child.”

There are not many things worse than a pretty day to go fishing, but catching no fish. With this recent ice storm, 65 degrees and a beaming sun is a blessing! My relatives have a saying that can persuade me to drop what I am doing and go see for myself. “I can feeling them tugging now”! Some times it starts slow, but gradually gets better with the warming sun. Other times, I would have rather just stayed sitting on the couch because nothing is taking the bait.

If I had a penny for every time I heard the phrase, “Patience, son.” I would most likely be somewhere else than my office. Most of the time it was from my parents replying to me asking whether supper was ready to eat. I was on their time, and could not stand it because I was hungry! Seems like we are on other folks’ time more often than we are on our own time. “Too much to do, and not enough time to get it done,” is another phrase I grew up with. Maybe you did too. We all like to be in control, especially in control of our time.

Scripture gives the idea of waiting too. In Isaiah 40:31 we read “but they that wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” The song that uses this verse is very powerful in my opinion. We are taught where to wait; on our knees. We are taught how to wait; in prayer. We are taught why to wait; an answer is coming from God. I do not like waiting on things, therefore, you can say I am rather impatient, but trials and temptations have brought me down to my knees plenty of times. Being taught to wait strengthens us, gives us boldness, endurance, and furthers our dependance upon God. Therefore, let us hurry up….and wait on God.
