Jesus Knew….

Picture this; you wake up and it is a beautiful day outside. You walk into the kitchen and fix a cup of coffee or juice or whatever you choose to drink to start your day. You walk over to the calendar and notice that today is the day you have have circled for a long time; “Last Day on Earth!” It would be understandable if you circled a birthday or anniversary or maybe even your retirement from work, but that may seem morbid to think that you have your last day on Earth circled. Imagine knowing that day. Does that seem strange? Are you happy? Do you have the sudden urge to prepare a lot of things for different reasons? For example, people will visit your family so the house needs to be cleaned. You want to be presentable for your funeral, so you go and buy an expensive outfit or suit.

Perhaps knowing the date of your last day allows you to do certain things that you normally wouldn’t be able to do. Maybe this is a day where you sell all of your possessions so you can leave your family with a great sum of money. Maybe you drop everything and go see the Grand Canyon. Maybe this is a day where you just sit on the couch, eat ice cream all day, and watch reruns of your favorite television show. Maybe you go on a crime spree. How can they punish someone who is about die? In that situation, you know for a fact you can get off freely with no punishment. Do you choose to abide in worldly deeds just one time to see what its like?

Now, lets consider this; Jesus knew. Jesus knew when his last day on Earth was. He knew what the next part of God’s plan was for him. He knew how the plan was to go into effect. He knew about the shame and torment which he was going to endure. He knew the only friends he had on Earth were going to leave him to save themselves. He knew he was going to be all alone to face his toughest trial…and Jesus washed feet (John 13).

Can we say we would do the same thing? Let us make a choice to show Christ’s love daily.
