Like lots of things, success comes from a combination of different variables coming together to complete a task or accomplish a goal. For example, in cooking, the appropriate temperature must be met for the meal to be considered edible, but the ingredients must also all be combined to produce the desired dish. Maybe a football team has to practice their game plan, study the opponents, and then each player must do their respected assignment for the game in order for them to win. The same principle applies in growing spiritually, both individually and as a congregation of the Lord’s church.
When we come together on Sunday mornings to worship, we are participating in five different acts; singing, praying, partaking of the Lord’s Supper, preaching, and giving. What if we took one of those acts away? Would it still be considered worship? In some aspects, yes. However, if we just skip every song in the worship period, it will not be proper and the “aroma” will not be pleasing (Gen. 8:20-21, Num. 28:2-6). More importantly, God wants us to sing (Eph. 5:19; Col. 3:16). How does that feel knowing you did not sing on a Sunday morning? I love to sing! I would be very upset if we did not sing to God, especially on the Lord’s day! Now imagine leaving the milk out of cornbread. It just isn’t right!
As we conclude, think about the other ingredients for success. Are you living a life worthy of a Christian? Do your actions reflect the ones of Christ? Are you sharing the gospel with those around you? We are commanded in Mathew 28:19-20 to “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” See, it takes a team and all the right…or should I say “RIGHTEOUS” ingredients to show others what true success is.
