If there is a fruit salad available where I am eating, odds are that I will be partaking in its sweet-like goodness in the very near future. The apples, bananas, different berries, and grapes all mixed together make me feel good and at least make me feel like I do not eat junk food all the time. Its just something about the sweetness that makes me keep coming back for more. However, in making the fruit salad, you may encounter a bad piece every now and then.
In Ephesians 5:22-23, we see what good spiritual fruits are. With that in mind, I like to imagine myself as a tree; like Jesus says in Matthew 7:15-20. Verses 17 and 18 say, “So, every healthy tree bears good fruit, but the diseased tree bears bad fruit. A healthy tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a diseased tree bear good fruit.” What do those good fruits look like?
First, the fruits would be having a desire for God’s word. Psalm 119:9 shows us that having a pure life is desiring God’s word. I think of a sword being used to defend my purity (like in Ephesians 6). A desire for God’s people would be next. Think back upon all the quarantine time we have been forced to have. I am sure we all wanted nothing more than to be with others. Being with God’s people make us better (Proverbs 27:17). A hatred of sin is another visible fruit. We understand that God hates sin, so why shouldn’t we too?
In Romans 12:9-10, we see that we ought to hold fast to good things. I believe that our efforts in hating evil and putting away sin will grow our desire for God’s people! Finally, the fruit is a desire for reaching the lost. Jesus came to seek and save the lost. In Luke 2:49 we see that Jesus was about His fathers business. Why shouldn’t we be about the Father’s business too?
