A Life-Long Commitment

The best decision any person can make is to put on Christ in baptism. This is a decsion that can change your life forever, even into eternity. But with such a great decison comes a life-long commitment. When we are baptized into Christ we put on Christ (Galatians 3:27). We are buried in the watery grave of baptism and rise up to walk a new life ( Romans 6:4). This new life is a new life in Christ Jesus. We have repented of our sins and had our sins washed away. We are now His children and we are to walk in His ways. In 1 John 1:7 we read, “But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.” Our new walk in Christ is a commitment to God and to a continual walk in the light. If we will stay true to this kind of life then we can be sure of the continual cleansing from the blood of Jesus. So what does our commitment to God look like?

Being committed to God involves being committed to everything that God is, everything that He has established, and everything He has told us to do. It is us choosing God, godliness, righteousness, His Word, His work, and His people over everything this world has to offer. We are not to keep on living those sin filled lives that we once lived. We are to be holy (1 Peter 1:15-16). We are to study and obey His Word and realize that we are to be His workmanship (Ephesians 2:10). We need to continually remember that we have been added to the Church by the Lord and we are to live, worship, and serve according to His will (Acts 2:47). Being a Christian is a life-long commitment. As His children let us show our life-long commitment to God by being those living sacrifices that we read about in Romans 12:1-2, and continue to live those holy and acceptable lives that have been transformed and renewed in Christ Jesus.
